Der herzlose Riese
15. und 16. Dezember, Theater an der Wien
For 75 years, the Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen have been an integral part of Lower Austria, especially their hometown of Gumpoldskirchen. Founded in 1949 by Josef Wolfgang Ziegler, the choir has gained recognition far beyond Austria's borders. Numerous international tours, top awards in prestigious competitions, participation in numerous opera productions, and countless performances are part of the daily life of these young singers. The mission of the Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen is to preserve and pass on Austrian choral culture through folk songs, compositions, texts, and singing traditions.
In doing so, we aim to deliver high-quality musical performances, support children and young people, and demonstrate that children's choirs can perform at a high level. In addition to traditional songs, classical choral literature, and opera choruses, we also perform new compositions by contemporary composers. A major focus is on a cappella singing.
